In 1989, Erik Tygesen founded Det Gamle Apotek. The basis was his preference for old buildings
and furniture that was combined with his love of Christmas and nostalgia.
These fairytale elements formed the framework for the idea of an extraordinary store, which should be an experience in itself to visit.
That was the dream back then, and the original store still stands today. Located in the heart of Tønder in the shopping arcade, the shop is a year-round meeting place for the magic and nostalgia that is often associated with our festivals and holidays.
It started with Christmas, which is still of utmost importance today, but today you can also buy handicrafts
and home accessories in the store, get inspiration for gift ideas and let your creativity run wild with our many DIY and hobby items.
The store is divided into 46 rooms, decorated in all kinds of colors, glitter and light.
The first store started in Tønder, and a second, permanent store has since opened in Copenhagen.
However, there are still pop-up shops opening in other Danish cities during the Christmas season.
